Ward, Bfctler, p. o. Le Roy. was born in Perry, Wyoming county, N. Y., October19, 1833. His father. Dr. Jabez Ward, was a native of Massachusetts and came toPerry, N. Y., where he was the leading physician. He married Aurilla Tufts, anddied m 1842. Butler Ward was educated in the common schools and Perry CenterAcademy. In 1S5-3 he came to Le Roy and entered the Genesee County Bank. In1S57 he went to Rockford, 111., where he was connected with a banking 1862 he enlisted in the war, serving as captain. He was wounded in the battle ofStone River and resigned in the spring of 1863. He then held a position in the Treasury for five years, after which he engaged m the insurance business in NewYork city for four years. In 18TJ Mr. Ward returned to Le Roy and became cashierof the First National Bank. The charter expired in 1885 and it was then reorganizedas the National Bank of Le Roy. In 1889 the Bank of
