VAN DER VINNE, Laurens, the elder, the sonof Vincent Laurenszoon van der Vinne, was bomat Haarlem in 1658, and was instructed by hisfather, whose style he attempted to follow. Henever rose above mediocrity, and his principalmerit consisted in the imitative painting of flowersand plants, on which he was much employed bythe botanists of his time. Healso engraved, and painted both original picturesand copies in water-colour. He was for a whiledirector of the Art Collection in the TeylerMuseum, and also carried on a trade in works ofart.
