Man in constume takes part in Nimbin's Mardi Grass parade which protests marijuana's prohibition.


People taking part in the Mardi Grass parade, the main event of the Mardi Grass festival in the town of Nimbin in northern New South Wales, Australia. The festival was first held in 1993 after aggressive action by police in an attempt to contain marijuana use in the area. It is intended to hold a Mardi Grass every year until prohibition ends. During Mardi Grass, information is circulated about the use and misuse, perception and misperception of marijuana use. As well as music, dancing, international speakers and a sporting event - the HEMP Olympix. Nimbin is a village of free spirits with the village's current persona born during the Aquarius Festival in 1973 when many alternative lifestylers moved to the area.
