Sunny memorial to 13 November 1904 Polish Socialist Party demonstration against Tsarist rule, Grzybowski Square, Warsaw, Poland

The Combat Organisation of the Polish Socialist Party (Organizacja Bejowa Partii Socialistycznej) was an illegal Polish organisation founded in 1904 by Jozef Pilsudski. Between 1904 and 1908, when it numbered 2000 members, including 700 paramilitary personnel, the organisation carried out 2500 operations. Its goal was to create an armed resistance movement against the Imperial Russian authorities in Partitioned Poland. The organisation declined after 1908 and was dissolved in 1911. On 13 November 1904, revenging Russian Cossack Cavalry trampling participants in a demonstration, 28 October 1904, the Polish Socialist Party Combat Organisation (PPS) opened fire on the Russian police and military during a demonstration at Grzybowski Square. The inscription on the memorial stone translates: 'At this place, on 13 November 1904, was held the first armed working demonstration, on Polish soil, organised by Polish Socialist Parties. In memory of fighters for freedom, independence and justice, who saw blood shed in this square in the fight against the Tsarist invasion of Warsaw.'
