Looking south south east at Norman north tower and statue of Richard Hooker in Cathedral precinct. North and South Transept towers survive from Norman Cathedral 1112-1160. The North tower is the earliest part of the present cathedral. circa 1200, 13th century, It had a Saxon precursor slightly to the SW. Cathedral completed 14th century. Richard Hooker, priest & scholar defender of 'middle way' of Queen Elizabeth I's church settlement.
