Sylva Sylvarum title page. This natural history book was written by the English philosopher and statesman Sir Francis Bacon (1561-1626). It was published posthumously in London in 1627. The title page consists of an artwork of a globe representing intellectual knowledge, two columns at right and left, a Latin motto, and mystical symbols and the Sun at top. At bottom is text describing the book, the author and his titles, the posthumous nature of the book, and the details of publication.
