The best of all isto regulate the tube by varying the intensity of the current passing throughthe bulb. A tube too hard for the object we desire to examine can be broughtback to the proper degree by allowing a fairly strong current to pass forseveral minutes. If the current used is not sufficient for this purpose, passa very heavy current for a moment. A time comes with all tubes when we must use the mechanical regulator, the same remark applying to valve tubes. The form of regulator varieswith the make of the tube, and all require some understanding before wecan properly use them. In all cases it is better to begin reducing the tubewith a minimum quantity of current and a fairly large interval of space.
