The institution was incorporated as a Collegeand Charity School, and from a profound respect forthe talents, virtues and services to mankind in general,. but more especially to this country, of His ExcellencyBenjamin Franklin, Esquire, President of the SupremeExecutive Council it was denominated Franklin Col-lege. The institution received authority to hold prop-erty and receive bequests, provided always the same donot exceed in the whole the yearly value of ten thousandpounds, valuing one Portugal half Johannes, weighingnine pennyweight, at three pounds. It is needless to saythat this provision was never infringed.
