Coast Guardsman Has a Close Shave. Coast Guardsman Joseph Edwards, chief signalman, had a close shave when a piece of shrapnel from a German bomb went through his cap. He is shown holding the fragment of shrapnel. The Coast Guardsman was on the signal bridge of a transport carrying Army contingents, one of the ships in the Allied armada invading Sicily, when it was bombed by German planes.
