Kibimba Camp, Goma, Aug 1994. This child in the camp's orphanage has just died in spite of efforts by aid-workers to save him.

Kibumba Camp, Goma Region, Zaire. By late July over 2 million Rwandans had fled to Zaire. Among the survivors, over 100,000 are unaccompanied Rwandan child orphans. Dysentery and cholera were widespread and many died. UNHCR's Kibumba camp houses over 300,000 refugees. These refugees are mainly Hutus fleeing in fear of Tutsi reprisals after the Hutu Interahamwe massacres of Tutsis in the spring of 1994.
