Burdock burs, prickly cases around the seeds of the burdock plant that easily attach to fur and clothing for efficient seed dispersal, shown here on a Golden Retriever dog. The hook-and-loop system that the seeds use to attach themselves was George de Mestral's inspiration for Velcro.
