The W face of Muiredach's Cross, Monasterboice, Co Louth, Republic of Ireland: an early C10th High Cross showing the Crucifixion along with other scenes from the New Testament. An inscription on the base says that the cross was erected by 'Muiredach', possibly the abbot Muiredach mac Domhnaill who died c 922. The first monastery here (Mainister Bhuithe) was founded by St Buite who died c 521.
