Kamadhenu, the wish-fulfilling cow
Kamadhenu, the wish-fulfilling cow, who suckles Shiva’s bull Nandi and the Devi’s tiger. This composite creature has the body of a cow, the sumptuous tail of a peacock, the horns of a bull, the face of a woman and multicolored wings. A long plait of hair, decorated with a tassel at the end, is visible near the front hoofs, and her long neck and her head are bedecked with jewels. Metal decorations cap the tips of the horns. The ocean, teeming with aquatic life, is contained inside her belly: this probably hints at her bountiful and nurturing nature. A chakra (discus) is drawn on her rump.
