The scale of the plan is 1= 50 and gives in amuch clearer and more concise manner, the general arrangement,of the work and the location of the various departments, thanany amount of text is able to do. In describing the works proper, I shall take up thedepartments in the order of their importance. First and un-questionably the most important building is the machine shop*. ■of y 9 MACHINE SHOP. This department includes the Soiler Shop, Forge Shop,Tin Shop, Erecting Room and the Machine Shop proper. A toolroom adjoins the latter on the east. The plan on pages ^ )6j(7&, 18gives only that portion of the above enumerated departments ascomprise the Machine and Erecting Rooms and their tool referring to page 5 however it is seen that there isanother section both to the north an, another to the south Machine Shop. The machine shop and erecting room section, as shownon par-e \@ is two hundred and ten f eetfrom north to south,and its greatest dimension east and west is one hundred andtwenty one feet. The plan gives the location of the machinetools such as laches, drill presses, planers, slotters Erecting Shop occupies the western portion of the room asis shown by the position of the tracks that enter the buildingfrom the west, and run far enough to accomodate the largestlocomotiv
