Active galaxy NGC 1275. Combined visible (white and yellow), X-ray (purple) and radio (pink) images of the active galaxy NGC 1275. This galaxy is a well-known radio source (Perseus A) and a strong emitter of X-rays due to the presence of a black hole in its centre. It is located in the constellation of Perseus and is around 230 million light years from Earth. The area seen here is around 260,000 light years across. The optical data is from the Hubble Space Telescope's (HST) Advanced Camera for Surveys (ACS). X-ray data is from the Advanced CCD Imaging Spectrometer on the Chandra X-ray Observatory. The radio data is from NRAO's ground-based Very Large Array (VLA). For the optical image, see C004/9646.
