Renovation work to the Torre Pendente or Leaning Tower of Pisa on the Campo dei Miracoli (Field of Miracles) at Pisa, Tuscany, Italy. This photograph was taken in 2007 when lightweight aluminium alloy scaffolding and temporary netting surrounded the tower’s Romanesque open galleries. Construction of the tower began in 1173 and was completed with the addition of Tommaso di Andrea da Pontadera’s bell chamber in 1372 – by which time the tower was already leaning at least ( ft.) from vertical.

Construction of the tower began in 1173 and continued for about 200 years.
