CHINESE P/EONIES The old-fashioned Paeony has long been an Inhabitant of our gardens. They are among the hardiest flowers we have, and are admired for their large and gay flowers, which are produced in the early summer. While many beautiful sorts have been offered in our Catalogue, we have this season imported, direct from the most celebrated grower in the world, the finest collection obtainable in any list, including new and rare flowering sorts, and many unique and gorgeous double varieties in various shades of colors and markings, and some with very delicious fragrance. The best season for planting Paeonies is the spring; they will succeed in any ground unless so wet that the water will lie on the surface; but to obtain the greatest size of bloom and strongest growth, the soil should be well enriched. SELECT NAMED VARIETIES Psony, Anemonsflora. Crim- son. Free flowering; one of best. —Artlmesia. Large bold flow- ers, guard petals deep blush ; centre fawn and blush ; a great favorite. —Lady Bramwell. Light pur- plish rose, delicate lilac shading; very large and double. —Louis Van Houtte. Rich purple lake; a noble variety; extra full and free. Striata Specosia. White, dif- fused with yellow and rose ; novel. Tenuifolia Latifoiia. Deep rose, edged pink. Vlrgens. White, lightly tinged yellow in centre Wliitlegia. Sometimes slightly tipped with carmine, then passing into pure white ; a strong grower, with beauti- ful broad foliage ; early to flower ; very best white for cutting.
