This knowledgecan be obtained by introducing the index finger into the vagina,and passing it upward for the purpose of reaching the sacral pro-montory. In making this examination, the female should be madeto stand erect, with her shoulders firmly placed against the wall,or some other plane surface. If the index finger be introducedinto the vagina, and carried upward and backward, it will sooncome in contact with the sacral promontory. When
