Male pelvic floor, artwork. The pelvic floor provides support to the pelvic organs, such as the bladder and prostate, and maintains continence as part of the anal and urinary sphincters. At top centre is the penis, with the anus below it. At upper left and right are the obturator internus muscles, which stabilise the hip. The majority of the pelvic floor consists of the levator ani, which is overlaid by the pubococcygeus. Below the levator ani is the coccygeus. These three muscles support the pelvic organs. At lower right and left is the piriformis muscle. This muscle attaches to the spine (bottom) and thigh bone and acts to laterally rotate and stabilise the hip.
