Antidepressant tablets (Seroxat). These tablets contain the SSRI (selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor) drug paroxetine hydrochloride, which is only available on prescription. Seroxat is used to treat depressive illness, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), panic disorder and agoraphobia. It works by prolonging the amount of time serotonin, a mood regulating neurotransmitter, is held in synaptic gaps in the brain, thus inhibiting its re-uptake. Seroxat is produced by GlaxoSmithKline Pharmaceuticals.
