180826-N-HI376-1031 PHILIPPINE SEA (Aug. 26, 2018) The amphibious assault ship USS Wasp (LHD 1) and the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF) amphibious transport dock ship JS Osumi (LST 4001) are underway in formation during a passing exercise off the coast of Japan, Aug. 26, 2018. The Wasp Amphibious Ready Group, with embarked 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit, is operating in the region to enhance interoperability with partners and serve as a ready-response for any type of contingency.
