10/03/15 A giant solar panel farm in Derbyshire has been targeted by criminals. 'Eco-friendly' thieves struck twice walking-off with almost 100 solar panels from the 112 acre site being constructed by Solarcentury at Aston House Farm near Sudbury, Derbyshire. When the stolen panels are replaced and the site is switched on, the 20 megawatt solar panel farm will generate enough electricity to power 5,500 homes. Despite 24 hour security patrolling the 11 fields next to the A50 dual carriage way, Derbyshire Police Police are appealing for witnesses after a large amount of solar panels and plant equipment were stolen from land near Sudbury. Between 6pm on Tuesday, March 3 and 7am the next morning, thieves went onto fields off the A515 Lichfield Road and removed 14 solar panels. A total of 84 panels were stolen from another site in Lichfield Road between 6pm on Friday, February 27 and the next day. The panels were 2ft by 3ft and, due to the quantity, would have required at least one vehicle to move from the location. A sit-on roller was stolen from a third site, also in Lichfield Road, between 6pm on Tuesday, January 13 and 7am the following day. All Rights Reserved: F Stop Press Ltd. +44(0)1335 418629
