Pests.—There is one disease in connection with Auriculas which ought to be mentioned—the " rot" ; this attacks the main root at its base. The old varieties are most liable to be attacked, and it is necessary to examine the base of the main roots at the time of repotting. Sometimes they will be a mass of decay, although the plant itself may look right enough. All the decayed portions must be cut away with a sharp knife, and some dry quicklime pressed firmly into the cut portion.
