Anita R. Deegan, niece and goddaughter of Army Cpl. Horace M. "Buddy" Thorne, Medal of Honor recipient, places her hands on the memorial that honors Army Cpl. Horace M. "Buddy" Thorne, Medal of Honor recipient, near Grufflingen, Belgium, Sept. 24, 2018. Thorne led a combat patrol in 1944, and was killed during the mission. He was awarded the MOH posthumously a year later for risking his life beyond the call of duty.
