The submarine 'Nautilus', 1901. The 'Nautilus' designed by Robert Fulton (1765-1815), American inventor and engineer. The submarine is shown 1) submerged and 2) travelling on the surface. Fulton demonstrated the manually powered vessel on the Seine, in May 1801.
