Original WW1 era postcard of smartly dressed proprietor / tailor, standing in doorway outside a boutique shop - there's a sign for Burberry waterproofs in the window and lengths of tweed. Sign above states H J Howell Ladies and Gents tailors & also advertising tailoring of "Costumes, Habits., Breeches & Liveries" The sign also advertises other premises at 11 Milk St Cheapside London. But there is a telephone exchange on the sign for Arundel 25 - so this shop is in the West Sussex seaside town of Arundel in the High Street - perhaps he retired here and kept the London shop. Circa 1917,

Postcard dated to circa 1917 due to man's collar width - collars became narrower during WW1 but were not pointed until early 1920's. Also, see Alamy ref: C1G86A for one of our images of a fashionable, wealthy gentleman wearing tweeds, Homburg hat and a shirt with a narrow collar that has a date of 1917 written on the reverse.
