Puffball mushroom (Calvatia utriformis). The outer wall of this fruiting body has split open to allow the dispersal of the reproductive spores from the sac inside. A cup-shaped sterile base has been left behind. C. utriformis is a rare fungus, which grows only on fertilised meadows at the fringes of woods. Photographed in the Yorkshire Dales National Park.
