HAUNTINGS - SEVEN DEADLY SINS Illustration by Doris Burton, to the 'mediaeval romance' by Harold Boulton, The Huntress Hag of the Blackwater, 1926 edition. The picture illustrates the poem, The Exorcism, in which the maleficient hag of the Blackwater ('Lewd minion of Apollyon') is exorcised by a priest. The exorcism is completed in the next poem, The Spirit Rends Me and Flees: Malodorous vapours choked my breath, And as I swooned in seeming death Wide open flew the oaken door, The evil thing was there no more.
