Hormone replacement therapy (HRT) tablets. A blister pack of Premique low dose pills. HRT pills are synthetic hormones used to treat menopausal symptoms in women. They counteract the hormone deficiency that occurs at menopause. The active ingredients in Premique are conjugated oestrogen (a naturally occurring form of oestrogen) and medroxyprogesterone acetate (a synthetic form of progesterone). HRT also helps to prevent osteoporosis. However, use of HRT is associated with increased risk of breast cancer, stroke and blood clots.
