Kilclooney Dolmen - Co. Donegal Ireland. A Dolmen is a Neolithic structure thought to be a burial site dating from 3000-4000 BC set on a hilltop.

I took this image while on a short holiday in Donegal in the west of Ireland using a Canon 6d camera with a 24-105mm lens. The October day was overcast with some showery rain. I stayed not far from Kilclooney miles from the town of Glenties in County Donegal. The Dolmen was difficult to find as it is not well signposted but after passing it several times I eventually spotted it on a hilltop silhouetted against the grey sky. Dolmens are ancient Neoliths dating back over 5000 years and are presumed to be the burial sites of ancient Irish chieftains but no one is entirely sure. This was why I wanted to record this image for anyone fascinated by Irish history ancient and modern. Image © copyright 2017 Chris Cosgrove Photography.
