Besidethe plate of each head of the family were laid the keys to an apartment,with a card inviting the family to take possession at once, and remainas long as they chose. I cannot describe the scene that followed ; there were tears andbroken voices ; suffice to say, the members of that household were i66 THK RKD CROvSS. made happy and comfortable for many long months ; and
