Rema/rhs.—The female can be recognized by the wide circular sixth segment plate and the short triangular caudal rami, the male by the absence of accessory lobes on the posterior margin of the carapace and of lateral dorsal plates on the second segment. Occwrrence.—Found in abundance on the fins of the common sand shark, the great white shark, the smooth dogfish, the dusky shark, the mackerel shark, the brown shark, and once on the menhaden. Distnhution.—Woods Hole area (S. I. Smith, R. Rath- bun, M. J. Rathbun, McClendon, Wilson); Beaufort, N. C, Great South Bay, Long Island (Wil- son). Color.—Female yellow or yel- lowish white, with a wide curved band on each side of the carapace and a large spot in the center of the dorsal plates of the fourth segment brown or black. In ma- ture females the oviducts give the genital segment a grayish or brownish tinge. Male yellowish and transparent, without the pigment markings. Female.—Carapace less than half the entire length, with a sinuate margin between the posterior lobes; dorsal plates of the second seg- ment broadly elliptical, divergent, reaching the center of the plates on the fourth segment.
