Celebrations in the Duomo Square after the candidate Giuliano Pisapia, centre-Left criminal lawyer, beat Litizia Moratti by a convincing 55 per cent to become the Mayor of Milan. Silvio Berlusconi suffered a humiliating defeat on Monday after his party lost control of Milan, his political power base and home town, after nearly 20 years of conservative rule. Thousands of Italian people took to the streets to celebrate into the night, with a political rally taking place in Duomo Square.
