Modern architecture. A narrow alley between two houses opens onto a street and frames the front door of a house opposite. Poundbury, Dorchester, UK.

Poundbury, on the outskirts of Dorchester in Dorset, is built on land belonging to the Duchy of Cornwall, the estate of His Royal Highness Prince Charles. The prince takes a keen interest in the built environment and has been an outspoken critic of modern architecture. At Poundbury he is creating a new town based on his own architectural principals and a vision of a harmonious community built on a human scale. In style and appearance the development looks old and traditional but in reality everything is new and has been built since 1993, which is when construction began.
