C1930s Relief lighthouse keepers arriving in a rowing boat at Wolf Rock Lighthouse (Cornwall, England) in a heavy swell. Situated between St Mary's, Isles of Scilly and The Lizard near Lands End. It gets its name from the howling sounds produced by wave action on the rocks during stormy weather. A metal effigy of a wolf was placed on top as a daymark but was washed away in the late 1700s. The Cornish name for the rocky outcrop is An Welv meaning The Lip. It was the first lighthouse in the world to be fitted with a helipad. James Walker built the cone shaped beacon next to it in 1848.
