Cardiac ablation surgery pump. Irrigation pump (upper left) being used to cool catheters during cardiac ablation surgery. Cardiac ablation is a technique that uses catheters inserted into the heart to heat or freeze tissue to ablate (destroy) the tissue to reset the coronary rhythm. This technique is usually used to treat arrhythmia (an irregular heart beat). This is a Cool Point irrigation pump from the St Jude Medical company. An electrophysiology (EP) control box is at upper centre. Photographed in the UK.
