Foligno, Umbria, Italy. Santa Croce Abbey (1070) in Sassovivo at sunset with pink clouds, surrounded by green Mediterranean nature.

The abbey of Santa Croce in Sassovivo is a Benedictine complex which rises about 6 km from the center of Foligno, at an altitude of 565 m on the slopes of Mount Serrone. Isolated on a spur of rock, it is surrounded by a huge secular holm oak forest, which covers 7 hectares, among the oldest and most primitive in the whole of Umbria. It was founded by Benedictine hermits around the year 1070. Since 1979, the bishop of Foligno has assigned the abbey to the "Little Brothers" of the Jesus Caritas Community of Blessed Charles de Foucauld. The Priory General of the community is located in Sassovivo.
