The restrictions come into place, as the EU and Turkey discuss a ‘1 in 1 out’ policy, which is hoped to deflate tensions and stabilise migration within the region. Resultantly, an estimated 12,000 migrants, 60% of which are believed to be under the age of 16 years old, are now stranded in the small, Greek border village of Eidomeni, where they await clarity on future, transnational cooperation. The camp, which resembles a large landfill, stretches out for hundreds of yards along an active railway track. The situation has been worsened by a lack of facilities, bad weather, and a recent Hepatitis A outbreak. The border, which is now manned 24/7 by Greek, Macedonian, Slovak and Polish authorities, has witnessed violence, gangland intervention and heavy protest since its closure. © Byron Kirk/Alamy Live News.
