A heap of ash and bones from the crematoria at Buchenwald concentration camp. Buchenwald and its 139 sub-camps were forced labour camps not death camps and there were no gas chambers there. However poor conditions, abuse and executions led to 56500 deaths there. It was liberated by the US Army on the 11th April 1945. The photo is dated 14th April 1945, three days after the camp's liberation.
