Benjamin Harrison, 23rd President of the United States of America, (1901). Harrison (1833-1901) was the victorious Republican candidate in the 1888 US presidential election, defeating the incumbent Democrat, Grover Cleveland. Cleveland in turn defeated Harrison in the election of 1892, as his popularity waned in the face of an economic depression.
