Funeral for Russian killed during the conflict at the Russian White House in October 1993. Moscow, Russia. On 21 September of 1993 Russian President Boris Yeltsin disbanded the Russian Parliament or Supreme Soviet his vice president Aleksandr Rutskoi along with Supreme Soviet speaker Ruslan Khasbulatov lead lawmakers to barricade themselves inside the Russian White House on the Moscow River in the city center. Rutskoi and Khasbulatov encouraged gangs to attack the Moscow Mayor’s office, across the street from the White House and the Ostankino television center in northern Moscow. Rebel lawmakers that remained in the White House voted to impeach Yeltsin and declared Rutskoi the acting Russian President. On the morning of 4 October 1993 Yeltsin ordered the Russian Army to open fire on the blockaded White House with heavy battle tanks and by the afternoon the rebel members of the Parliament along with Rutskoi and Khasbulatov were arrested, ending the worst violence in Moscow since the 1917 Bolshevik Revolution. According to the Russian Government between 74 to over 150 people died and 172 were injured during the conflict.
