Tarsus very long, nearly double the length of hind toe and claw. Primaries equal, 1, 2, 3, 4, the latter a shade shorter. Primaries eraarginate, 2, 3, 4 ; Jifth primary much shorter than fourth, and less than long secondaries, which come between fourth and fifth. Feet reaching to about two thirds of tail. Adult male. General colour above sandy, mottled with darker centres to the feathers, less distinct on the hind neck, and impart- ing a somewhat streaked appearance to the head ; the rump nearly uniform; least wing-coverts like the back; greater and median series dark brown, very broadly edged with clear sandy buff, in- clining to whitish on the extreme margin of the feather; primary- coverts and primaries dark brown, narrowly margined vnih. sandy buff, the s
