Ethnic Bai women sell fruit and snacks at a makeshift market in Shaxi, an ancient trading town for caravans once plying the Tea Horse Trail, Jianchuan County, Yunnan province, China. Shaxi is considered one of the most intact caravan towns on the Ancient tea route that passed through Yunnan on its way into Burma and Tibet. The town's Sideng market square is of considerable importance, with an intact theater, guesthouses for merchants, a temple precinct, and protective gates. It was recently restored and is now a tourist attraction.
