A small, cliff-nesting gull, the Black-legged Kittiwake breeds along northern coasts and winters out at sea. Nest composed of wet and dry vegetation and mud (sometimes seaweed, feathers, and barnacles) on top of mud/vegetation platform. Placed on ledge of steep cliff. Nests in colonies. Medium-sized to small gull with small, unmarked yellow bill. Head and underparts are white while the back is medium gray. Wingtips black, without white spots, as if dipped in ink. legs black.
