He is a Knight Templarand a Thirty-third Degree Scottish Rite Mason, taking this degree in was active during the Civil War, but an invalid wife kept him at was drafted and paid a substitute in the army. He is of Massachusettspuritan descent. His great grandfather, of Westfield, Massachusetts, wasa Mason, and a colonel under Geo. Washington in the Revolutionary War,and the General commanding in the field of Massachusetts troops duringthe Shay WILLIAM SHEPARD, EDITORIAL. 75 Dr. Shepard is now nearly eight-eight years of age and has graduallyand slowly grown to believe that the psychical should be more generallytaught in medical schools.
