Fife player in Geneva's annual Escalade festival

A female flautist of the Genevan 1602 Company dressed in traditional costume. The 1602 Company celebrates l'Escalade (as it is called in French) in Geneva each year. These celebrations commemorate the defeat of an attack by the Duke of Savoy on the city of Geneva, Switzerland, on the night of 11th-12th December 1602. The celebrations are held on the closest weekend to those dates. Genevans dress up in costumes of the time and parade through the streets of the old city to the sound of pipes and drums.
