William Hogarth (1697-1764). 19th Century artwork of the British artist, satirist and social critic William Hogarth. Hogarth is credited with pioneering western sequential art. His work ranged from realistic portraiture to comic strip-like series of pictures called modern moral subjects . His work is so well-known and recognisable that satirical political illustrations of a similar style are often referred to as 'Hogarthian'. Published in 'Old England' by Charles Knight (1860).
