George Bullockwas elected. New methods were introduced and thecompany grew amazingly. This company began itsbusiness in Worcester in 1845. Its first first presi-ident, John Davis, its third president, Alexander , and its vice-president, Emory Washburn,were at various times elected governor of the com-monwealth. The second president of the company,Isaac Davis, was almost as prominent in public af-fairs as his uncle who preceded him. He waspresident twenty-nine years.
