The Ditib Grand Mosque in Cologne-Ehrenfeld was officially opened on Saturday afternoon () in the presence of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and the Imam Ali Erbas (photo). The opening of the approximately 30 million euro mosque with a cupola hall for 1,100 believers marks the end of Erdogan's state visit to Germany. In his speech, Erdogan described the Central Mosque as a symbol for the belonging of Turks living in Germany to German society. No German politician took part in the opening ceremony.
