In the business world he is regarded as asuccessful man, and in the community as a usefulcitizen. WILLIAM M. WEEKS. William M. Weeks was born November 6th 1803, atRed Spring, near Glen Cove, L. I. He was reared onthe farm of his ancestors, where he remained, aiding inthe duties of the farm, until he arrived at the age of 21years. He then left the farm and purchased a smallplace, called Cape Breton, lying about a mile south ofhis former home, The access to the place was through. a thicket of trees and bushes. Here he commenced hisbusiness career by establishing a small grocery in a partof the old house standing on the place, keeping bach-elors hall and devoting his spare time to grading andimproving his place. After five or six years he removed to Mosquito Cove,now Glen Cove, leased a small store and commencedtrade, living and sleeping in his store in single life for afew years. Here he gradually increased his business,and, taking a lively interest in local enterprise, he builtshops and otherwise aided mechanics, such as carriagemakers, blacksmiths, tailors, and shoemakers, in startingtheir respective kinds of business. He also acted in thecapacity of auctioneer in different parts of the country,and became well known as well as popular in that branchof business.
